Located in Cordera, this property backs up to Cordera’ trail system, offering a wide-open feel. This site’s back yard was small and fairly sloped. Our clients came to us for help in creating a back yard they could sit out and enjoy, with room for the kids and dogs to play. Sometimes it feels like a small yard can’t fit everything that is desired, but with some design considerations, it is possible to create a cozy space that includes all of the desired features.
To create this outdoor living space, we needed to figure out how to deal with the back yards slope. Rather than fighting the grade, we opted instead work with it. A couple small retaining walls, and a tiered patio created an outdoor living space that wasn’t built up above the rest of the yard like a stage. The concrete is broom finished, but we mixed in an integral color, giving the patio warmth and vibrancy.
The pergola draws the eye up; the height helps enlarge the space. Custom built from cedar and stained to match the home’s exterior. It provides an attractive architectural element, as well as an opportunity for shade and lighting,
The natural gas fire pit and seat wall are constructed with Siloam stone. Beautiful and functional, they anchor the patio space.
The softscape includes just the right amount of lawn space, along with hardy plantings. A spruce serves as screening from the next-door neighbors.
